Ms. Day says: We are doing something new this year with reading. It's called "The Daily 5" This is how we spend our time during reading seatwork time. Students spend this time either reading to themselves, reading to someone else, working on writing, or doing word work. We have been practicing since the first day of school, and we are getting very good at it. It is to help us become better readers and writers.
We have had a very busy week, and we have accomplished a lot. Last week, the kids told me what to put in our blog post, and I wrote the post. This week, the kids did the writing. Melynn & Tyler H say:When your are doing "Read to Self," Pick a book, find a place to sit. It builds stamina. Don't sit by someone that you are going to talk to. When you read to yourself, read quietly. Make sure the book that you pick is just right for you. Read in your head, don't read out loud.
Shaylah & Tyler W say:In our class when you read to someone we call it "EEKK". It means elbow to elbow, knee to knee. Then you read to them quietly so they can hear and no one else. Sometimes we don't, but we do our best!
Alexis & Caleb W say:We had our first spelling pretest on Monday. We have our first real spelling test on Friday! Our spelling words have long "a" and short "a" and long "e" and short "e". Some of our spelling words have "ea" unlike the other words. We go on a website called
Spelling City.com to practice our spelling words. There are lots of fun games to help us practice.
Nolan & Kara say:We have a new P.E. teacher. His name is Mr. Korock. He's funny and awesome and he is very active. We did sit ups and push ups and we did jump rope. He's a great P.E. teacher!
Madison & Brooklyn say:You get to learn math on the ipads. The way that you zoom in is you touch two fingers together and then spread them apart. Then to zoom out you have your fingers apart and then you bring them together. You can play games on it. They are very skinny. They are $500. It is a touch screen. I wish I had one. There's a game that you make your spelling words glow. There's a game that you can type your spelling words and make a sentence.
Rhiannon & Vicente say:Spelling City is a website that you can play games and be tested. Some of the games are fun and some are hard. We are tested on spelling words for each week. You can try Spelling City at home. Check it out at

Mikey & Travis say:The blue ribbons started on Friday. When someone gets one, the next day they get to pick the next one. After they use it their name is on it. It says "Who I am makes a difference."
Olivia & Lexi say:We are using planners. For math we write what we are supposed to do. When we are finished we put a checkmark in the little box. We write what our homework is. We write our spelling in our planners. The parents are supposed to sign it when we bring it home. We write our language arts in our planners.
Sebastian & Skylar say:On Tuesday we had a practice inside recess. We had all kinds of games, but we also had rules. The rules were that you couldn't run, yell and you had to pick up after yourselves. There was a specific closet that you could get toys from. In the closet there were two shelves and the ground floor of toys that you could get toys from. The rest of the closet was supplies. Don't throw the game pieces. When Ms. Day tells you to clean up, she's not kidding. She wants it put away right then.
Kaiya & Katie say:Hi, have you heard, we have a new music teacher Mr Rieker. Mr. Reiker is very funny. In fourth grade you get to play a recorder and strings. Mr. Reiker is also teaching us hand signals to "do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do". Mr. Reiker also lets us watch cool videos like this one with violins. We are going to be having a fun time this year.
Ella & Caleb C say:We have figured out the main characters in the book "Fourth Grade Rats": Suds Morton and Joey Peterson. The person telling the story is Suds Morton. There is a rhyme saying that goes like this: "First grade babies, second grade cats, third grade angels, fourth grade rats."
Drake & Hunter say:Be ready for it. It's the multiplication time test. We had ten minutes, it's not long and it's not hard either and always be prepared and always recheck your paper if you get done early.
Eric & Grayson say:Music notes are green, yellow, and red. Green note means you're really good, yellow means you're kind of good, and red means you're bad and you haven't done a really good job in music class. If we get 12 music notes we get to pick what we get to do in music. If you sit by your friends and you talk you get a red or yellow music note.
Ashley & Justin say:Today we played the math game "pig." You have two dice, paper, and something to write with. You draw a "T" chart and put your name on top. Then you roll the two dice. If you roll a one you lose all the points you just rolled. If you roll two ones you lose all your points that you have. The first one to one hundred wins. That's how you play "pig." It was funny because me and my friend kept on getting "4." It was kind of funny for me because on my first try I rolled "snake eyes."
